Explanation
Security refers to measures taken to safeguard individuals, communities, or states from crime, violence, or other threats. While often viewed positively as protection and stability, security can also justify increased surveillance, policing, and restrictions on civil liberties. In criminology, security studies examine how fear of crime shapes policy, urban design, and social inequalities, including the spread of gated communities, surveillance systems, and risk management strategies.
