The Thin Blue Line is both a metaphor and a visual emblem (a black-and-blue flag or patch) used to depict police officers as the protective barrier that maintains social order against crime and disorder. Critics argue it can foster an “us vs. them” mentality, reinforcing police solidarity at the expense of community accountability. It is also used politically to oppose reform movements, framing police as heroes under siege.
